hey guys so im monday im shooting to microcenter to buy some hardware, case most likey the 3570k and maximus gene5,i already have ssd on order and my trident x 2400 c10 ddr3's on order, but imkind wiggly if i should maybe consider the m-power or theasrock formula, if the asus formula was only about 50 buks cheaper i would consider it but otherwise gene is the one i will be picking up for $160 from microcenter since im buying a cpu with it at microcenter it has some great deals, this is gonna be a rig for tv and gaming so single gpu only on this build. so i don't really need more slots but need the benefits to overclock my upcoming 3570k and my ddr3 2400,waht do u guys think? MIVE or M-power or Asrock FOrmula?

I'm in the same boat as you, with a much smaller budget unfortunately. For overclocking I would stick with ASUS and Gigabyte since they have the best VRM's. Personally, I'm hoping to get a UD3H or UD5H if they have any open boxes. If I had more money I would probably go for one of the good P8Z77's or a Maximus. Since you're overclocking don't get an ASRock, they don't have as good VRM's. I don't know anything about the MSI boards.

This is all second hand info, just so you know. I've been doing a lot of research on these the past few days for my purchase but I don't have any experience with any of them.

I actually got an asrock z77 extreme4 for my yet-to-be-complete build. It has a 8-2-2 power phase which I believe is good enough as long as you're not going to doing any liquid nitrogen cooling(I believe source is hardwaresecrete.com). I went through one of OCN's 3570k overclocking club threads and quite a few were reaching high stable clocks on air on the extreme4.

I went with the extreme4 just because it had the features I wanted. I don't think I'll ever go trip sli or cf so I'm good there. got it for $110 so I figure i got it at a good price.

hey thanks guys for replies, yea i will just stick with the gene board, hey teaCup if u have microcenter by u than they have those boards for really really cheap and additional 40 buks of if u buy the 3570k together which is unbeatable so the 3570k is only 169.99 and they just had a deal for sandy2500k for 99 buks! you go Microcenter yoohooooo

Hey Osky, if you overclock on that board let us know what you get it to.
I know about those deals benzman, the 2500k went out of stock and I'm on a really tight budget. :(

when you planning to build? I've got most of the stuff for my build but Im still waiting on some good prices before I complete. If Hyper *wink wink* puts up a build log forum I'll post everything there.

im building my second build tommorow when i get the cpu and mobo and case,im just hoping ill recieve my trident x 2400mhz kit tommorow and my samsung ssd830,but if not ill just pull 2 stiks from my x79 build for temporary use, im just reading that 3570k's imc's are weak compared to 3770k's so i just wanted to see if i get lucky with 3570k imc to get the 2400mhz it working,if not ill exchange it for 3770k o and i hope ill get my ek backplate working ok on the mobo for my asetek cooler so i can get right into overclocking and voltages see how good of a chip ill get

Yes .... Hyper my main man, we need that Build Log section up, I have already built my new X79 rig, missed out on adding that,
seems like a few here are on the go as well, don't want to miss out on those either ;)

I'm heading over to Microcenter later today. My plan is to get the 3570k, price match some Samsung RAM, and see if they have any open box deals on a ud3h or ud5h. If not I may have to settle for a d3h, however, I think they only have rev 1.0 which has worse power management than rev 1.1. I was originally planning to buy a Thermaltake Water 2.0 Pro but I might end up getting just a Hyper 212+ and putting the extra money towards a better board. Also, I may or may not get a cheap Agility 4 128GB, that depends on an answer I get in another thread.

I have to get my parts now because I'm moving to Arizona soon and there's no Microcenter there (Fry's has a horrible selection of parts). :( If things go poorly though I might be able to return or exchange some parts before I leave.

As for the build log, I don't have a decent camera, but I'll definitely record my overclock data for you guys. ;)

Get the SSD, and Some pictures are better than none!

But you guys might want to just PM Hyper, he has been on the forum but either not seen this thread (99% chance) or he doesn't want to, but I'm sure he would have explained why.

Sorry been a busy week for me. I'm on from my iPad and iPhone all the time, but makes it hard to do "forum stuff" from them. Build log section is up, however. So have at it.

great choice on the samsung ram, it ocs like a champ. the hyper212evo is also a great choice I have my 3570k running at 4.4 and it only reaches 40c under load. you should really get the ssd, one of the biggest upgrades you can make. i'd go with a vertex 4 256gb though because you will want that extra space for games. i only have d3, sc3, wow, and skyrim installed atm and have just 140gb free.

Yes, I have you to thank for the Samsung Ram gloat, look at the OC I am running with them on my rig (in sig below) 2133Mhz at only 1.4v is crazy, don't know any other ram that can do that.
For the money you pay, that Samsung ram is the best Memory on the market by far at the moment ;)

I don't recommend OCZ ssd's.

Yeah, whenever I have heard anyone having issues with an SSD, most of the time it is an OCZ drive.
I've got a Sandisc Extreme 240GB drive and a Samsung 830 256gb drive and they are both great so far.

Yea, I'm going to get an SSD either way since I need a new drive and don't want another HDD, I just have to wait for a good deal on a good drive. I run Linux and don't play very many games and am really OCD about unused files, so I can make 120GB work easily. ;)

Hey Sneaky, what frequency did you get your RAM to with 9-9-9-24?

Oops, did I recommend an OCZ SSD? I posted this before I went to sleep at 7am :p I thought we were talking about that Intel SSD on sale in another thread.

At my work I've seen lots of mechanical drives fail of all brands, but the only SSD I've personally seen come in broken was an OCZ PCIe one that the guy got only 5months beforehand. Then again, some people are perfectly OK with theirs :p

$100 120GB Intel 330 407841

Hey Sneaky, what frequency did you get your RAM to with 9-9-9-24?
Got it to 1866Mhz with those timings BUT that was only at 1.35V lol, if I upped the voltage to 1.5, I probably could have
got down to something like 7-8-7-22 but I stopped testing at 1866Mhz when I got it stable at 2133Mhz. ;)

SSD's, I'd go for either of these two but I am Biased lol
$90 128GB SanDisk SDSSDP-128G-G25 (extra 8gb is always good.)
$100 120GB Samsung 840-Series MZ-7TD120BW (this is the latest Samsung drive so I bet it is pretty good.)

Just got back from Microcenter. Got the 3570k, Z77X-UD3H, and the M4. You were too late with your suggestion, Sneaky. :p
I'm ordering the Samsung RAM and Thermaltake Water 2.0 Pro with AS5 from Newegg.

Unfortunately I won't be able to build it for at least a week due to my move to Arizona. :(

LOL...... Aussie time =P
The Crucial is good, got a couple of mates with them and they have never had any issues.
Be interested how your Thermaltake Water 2.0 Pro performs, I have the original Corsair H50 running Push Pull
on my work PC (i7 950) and it is pretty crap, idle sits at 40deg at 3.8ghz, thought I seated it incorrectly but
have reseated it several times and same result. I got better performance from the stock Intel cooler.

I read a lot of good reviews on it, in some cases it actually performed as well as the H80/H100 and should be generally on par with the Antec 920. I'm only getting it because it's $60 after rebate though, if it was as expensive as all the others I would just get a 212+.

Regarding the thermaltake water 2.0 pro....everything I've looked at shows much greater cooling performance with a corsair h100. Only problem of course being whether you have enough room in your case. But good thermal compound, and a push/pull config with an h100 and you are just golden....

So the UD3H I got is rev 1.1 but Gigabyte doesn't even have it on their website. Anyone know what the difference is?
All I've noticed from unboxing videos is that mine has all black sata cables rather than some being blue and didn't come with a badge.

for and SSD you cant go wrong with critical M4, Samsung, or intel.

I have a 120mb M4 and a 256mb Samsung.

Both are rock solid and as fast as each other or many other ssd in real world use.

Iva had the crutial for nearly 2 years and no problems.

I had an OCZ vertex 3 for 2 months and got regular BSOD's with multiple OS reinstalls
