upgrading my trusty gtx295 co-op , always used nvidia and considering picking up a gtx 680, would this be the only nvidia card to get 120hz? i noticed the high end amd cards also can oc to 120 hz , for 99% gaming would the gtx680 be the way to go?

Currently only the 670/680 can do 120 for NV and possibly the 660 when it launches. I would say save the cash and get a 670 and OC that sucker past the 680, while you can do the same for the 680 the 670 is just a better overall value.

The AMD are fine and I would definitely pick a 7970 over a 680 if I was buying today but would probably get a 670 before a 7970 so 670>7970>680 as far as value.

I will say we have seen more than a few 7970's go under the $400 mark and at the point it might be a better buy than the 670.

For example we had this going on a few days ago and I would pick it over a 670 easily .

I was in the same boat as you. After doing some research I came to the conclusion to just get a 670. You save a $100 and the difference is only a few FPS. I got lucky and found one that is used and "golden". Golden meaning it is a very high overclocker. It beats a stock 680 by a good margin.

General recommendation these days is the 670. You get niceties like adaptive vsync, and if you're looking at SLI in the future, some folks still complain of microstutter/lack of smoothness with Crossfire. 680 only adds 5-10% performance for ~25% more $$.

That said, 7970 prices are getting mighty nice these days, many come bundled with a lot of games too.
