A heck of a great deal. Seiki's 39" 4K LED-Backlit 120Hz resolution display for just $489 through Amazon. Unfortunately, as you may know, this runs through HDMI 1.4, and not 2.0. So the bandwidth is limited. That means you only get 30Hz at 4k resolution. However, you do get over 120Hz at 1080p. And 4k at 30Hz for video content or other work is still amazing at this price. Personally, I'm waiting until an HDMI 2.0/DisplayPort model comes out that can run full 60Hz through a single input. I think I could settle for some 4K60Hz gaming with prices this low. Check it out here if you were interested:

Excellent! Hope it arrives in Europe soon (tho of course the price won't be so keen)...

I too would wait for a HDMI 2.0 (or 2.1 preferably) interface if possible.

Interestingly enough....they're working on a possible firmware upgrade to hdmi 2.0. if they do that....it will be epic. 60Hz 4k technically means you can do around 130Hz 1440p. A 65" 130Hz 1440p panel would be amazing (they have one). Or even a 39" one. For $489...this unit would definitely be a possible alternative to qnix/catleap monitors. With the option of 60Hz 4k gaming for games that are fps limited to 60 anyway.

Do you mean you can upgrade 1.4 to 2.0 with a simple download? Or do you mean they're upgrading current models in the factory before shipping?

39" would b enough for me, going from a 27"

They are coming out with 2.0 spec devices. But they're also looking to see if their hardware can be firmware upgraded to 2.0. There are several devices that were launched with 1.4 that have been updated to 2.0 through software already. As far as I'm aware the cables and wiring is all the same. It's just the specifications that change. So in many cases it could be doable. I am not too informed and this is just my own assumption based on the news of other devices being upgraded, and Seiki stating on their facebook page that they're looking at the possibility of doing such an update themselves.

As far as I know, you are correct Hyper. Though, I haven't spent considerable time on it, I believe that is close to what I have read.

That would be very impressive if true... usually early adopters get shafted because later revisions are oh-so-slightly better or even significantly enhanced.... so this'd make a nice change

I just receive the screen for the small living room. Pretty impress with the image quality (1080 P 120 HZ)
But the speaker ... omg need a bar sound now

I read somewhere that firmware could be udated to do 120Hz natively... is it possible ??
This screen at 1080P with 120 hz natively would be awsome

The only firmware update I've heard of is the one Hyper mentions a few posts above, I.e., an update to HDMI 2.0

Sent from dumbphone (pls excuse typos and dumbness)

Yes sorry I was misinform. The 39 in do 120hz natively at 1080p but have serious frame skipping.
        Hope they will fix it...

Finally I will return this screen. They cant fix the 120 hz frame skipping by firmware upgrade. Quote from forum

XXXXXX, I personally verified as well while I was with the R&D team in China.

The issue has to do with the availability and current 39” flat-panel technology, in particular 4K. As you know Seiki is the only brand that offers this size. The only panel maker at this size ships with a certain number of chips attached to the panel—this is something we don’t have a lot of control over. That chip number determines the performance of the panel, along with the electronics.

In order for Seiki to deliver true 4K resolution, our team had to sacrifice what we thought was negligible 1080p performance using the available 39” 4K panel technology. While the panel is 120Hz rated and can deliver 1080p at 120Hz performance, it would then sacrifice 4K performance. Our team decided delivering a true 4K display was priority. In the end, it’s the hardware, so this issue can’t be fixed with an updated firmware—we tried hard to see if we can make this happen.

I know this is not the news you were hoping for. We’re also learning every day to make our next generation 4K displays perform better. In fact, you will hear about the fruits of our labor at CES with a completely new line of 4Ks.

Now, I want to thank you for all the time you spent to point out this issue, and I apologize for the delay in getting a proper response to you. Let me know if there is anything I can do from this point that you need.

It's a shame the Skyworth is so hard to get. It was able to overclock much easier and without frame skipping, and not a bad price. It just is only sold domestically in China, unfortunately.

I got it for 404$. Had issues with 600 series nvidia cards at full res gaming. I'm upgrading to a 760 to see if it will solve my issues.

How so? Last I was aware, you had to have a private party send it from China, yes?
Though, might be helpful to know where you are currently located as well..

I too have been out for a while, did they upgrade it?
      1. Shadman's Avatar
No, there are a few people that have been looking into it but nothing very solid now, or as far as I know, no prototypes either
      1. Mad-Duke's Avatar
Well it is now under 300$, any news on the HDMI 2.0?
