Planetside 2 (MMO-FPS) Beta Signup
Hey guys. Figured I should share my love of this amazing game called Planetside with you all. The original Planetside came out 9 years ago this past sunday. It was absolutely groundbreaking in what it tried to do, specifically:
- A persistent world. The battle never ended. You log off, you log on, the world of Planetside has still been going on while you were away.
- 3 separate factions, competing against each other. With some faction specific weapons/vehicles
- 10 Planets, each with more than 10 bases. Each of them several square kilometers wide. As a foot soldier, you'd probably expect a good 15-25 minutes to run across the planet.
- Support for up to 1000 players simultaneously per planet. Yes. 333 vs 333 vs 333.
- Around 30 different infantry weapons, and around 40 different vehicles. <-- That part is important. Multi-person and single person tanks, bombers, support vehicles,
- Different play-styles like Cloakers, Vehicle Specialists, Air Fighters, Max Units (super-reinforced suits/weaponry), base upgrades/repairs, sabotage, Anti-vehicular, anti-air, heavy assault, etc...
- Character development meant you had no set role. You spent your points from leveling to specialize and get certification in the use of different weapons, armours, support items, vehicles, etc..
The game had its set of problems. Subscriptions have fallen since its glory days. The game is now somewhat dated. The netcode used old technology and those with bad internet connections were rewarded for it. But...now there is a new Planetside 2 coming. Using its own brand new engine. The game looks Phenomenal! They kept all the features that made the original Planetside a success, and then went x10. Everything. Bigger in scope. Bigger battlefields. Bigger bases. Much more thought into everything. More customization. Everything just looks brilliant in it. And to make sure it stays a success, they decided to go Free To Play with this game. But unlike companies like Electronic Arts that give you free to play, then allow you to spend hundreds of dollars buying your way to the top, they will only be selling cosmetic upgrades. Nothing that would give anyone an advantage. As this game is a true first person shooter, it relies on skill.
So I've been waiting about...5 years for this game to be announced. And videos are popping up all over the place. Check out the video below, sign up for the beta by clicking here. And let me know what you think.
You can also find much more video including gameplay by searching youtube.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI just signed up for the beta, it looks like it could be really good, and the business model sounds the same as Path of Exile (Diablo-like F2P). Another FPS that looks interesting is Bullet Run, you can use the same account as Planetside to sign up to the beta. http://www.bulletrunthegame.com/

Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk 2Even though I'm no more than a monster - don't I, too, have the right to live?

Thanked 24 Times in 23 PostsGuys I know allot of you are aware this game is in BETA and isnt well coded, or is CPU intensive so you dont get good performance.
Well MY GOD!!!
Im now playing it as smooth as anything on a single 7970 and it looks beautiful, this is a god send.
Just put everything to high except for Terrain quality, particles, effects, and Audio, put them 4 settings on low, this is what makes the game not run well for some reason at its current state, the developers recommended this for people with good GPU's.
Also, in the cfg, go to - RenderDistance it is set to -1.000000 (this means the game automatically chooses for you) delete -1.00000 and put in 1500, or if you want a little less draw distance that is still very playable 1000, 1500 is enough to see far away though.
And Im sure you already know but you can also alter the FOV in the cfg.
This has made me enjoy the game so much.

Have bin hooked to EVE-Online so this seems very interesting only wondering if it has some depths as in logistics, economics and strategy or if its mainly focused to the FPS part witch would be new for me and probably many others. Signed up but ain't counting on a free beta participation

This game does look quite awesome, I really hate F2P and wish they just went with a sub model. If their idea of F2P with the only thing to buy being cosmetic works, I could find myself being ok with it. Ill probably try it. But Im hesitant to support F2P at all.

Yes I also hate f2p. But apparently they won't be selling anything that you can't earn. And nothing that will give someone with money an edge over a skilled player with no money. I'm hoping, anyway. But at the end of the day... Money always gives some kind of advantage. Think about someone with a $200 video card and $100 1080p 60hz monitor against our 1440p 120hz monitors and a gtx 690.
